Mendas reaping out awards!!
Financial Services Authority (and Mendas) win the Association of Graduate Recruiters Awards
The UK’s financial services industry regulator, the Financial Services Authority (FSA), has been rewarded by the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) for its innovative approach to selecting graduates.
Mendas was appointed to work with the FSA to ensure the best candidates were identified whilst also providing them with a fair opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities and potential whilst setting high standards in best practice in recruitment.
Working with the FSA, Mendas designed and delivered an innovative campaign which also closely matched the FSA’s new competency framework which was designed to appoint candidates who could be client-facing almost immediately after joining.
The FSA believes the new recruitment process has been successful with dramatic results like:
- 16% increase in requests for graduate compared to the previous year.
- Retention is typically around 85% during the 3 years of the programme. This drops to 77% after 4 years.
According to research by the AGR, out of 219 AGR members surveyed(employing 20,413 graduate recruits), the average graduate retention rate after two years is 74% (FSA is 88%), and after five years, this figure falls to 59%.
So CONGRATULATIONS to all those involved in this great piece of work!
Why Mendas was invited at No 11 Downing Street
Mendas is proud to have been shortlisted for the prestigious Mother @ Work award. Paola and Justin attended the award ceremony at No 11 Downing Street together with celebrities including Jo Brand, Arabella Weir and Sarah Brown.
The mother@work Awards were established to show individuals and employers how straightforward it can be to accommodate the needs of working mums while not detracting from but enhancing business.
Mendas’ flexible policies are truly designed to balance the working life around childcare commitments and are available to all staff and not just parents. Justin commented: “I am really proud to have been shortlisted for the award. I really believe that our staff is what makes Mendas special and I am really keen to ensure they are all happy about coming here in the morning”
How do working mothers in Surrey Police Force experience work-life facilitation?
Organisational interest in promoting work-life balance is rapidly growing as is research in the area, showing that productivity, staff turnover and absenteeism can all be affected and improved by implementing work-life balance friendly policies. The UK government has also recognised the importance of investing more time and money into work-life balance research and policies.
One example is the UK Police force which is under mandate to update its policies to facilitate a diverse workforce. Whilst much work-life balance literature has focused on conflict, this study this study explored facilitation; with specific focus on working mothers in a UK Police Force.

Coaching for Performance. GROWing People, Performance and Purpose.
John Whitmore, Nicholas Brearley 2007
The world of business psychology places great emphasis on the use of theoretical models to underpin actions taken and recommendations made. However, John Whitmore suggests that in the case of coaching, the most important elements for success are ‘awareness’ and ‘responsibility’.
Coaching for Performance is written in a narrative, conversational style that guides the reader through a range of issues starting with the question ‘What is coaching?’ - a question which has recently prompted much debate amongst the Mendas team. Following chapters provide details of the advantages of coaching in management and when introducing change.
