New Web-based Level A training lessons for online learning.

Mendas has launched a new partnership with Real Training to provide highly cost-effective and flexible routes to achieving the Level A Certificate of competence in Occupational Testing. As well as offering delegates the traditional face-to-face course over three days, delegates can now choose to study Level A through blended leaning or distance learning options.

For almost 20 years the British Psychological Society’s Level A Certificate of Competence in Occupational Testing has been the ‘industry standard’ qualification in psychometric testing.

Now we are able to offer this nationally recognised course through blended and distance learning options that make extensive use of innovative online learning technology to support delegates through the course.

The online technology has been designed by educational psychologists and its development has provided useful insights for anyone involved in developing or participating in online learning courses.

Research indicates that:

  • Online courses must be carefully structured and designed in a highly user-friendly way if delegates are to be initially engaged with the system and their motivation for the course sustained. One way to retain motivation is to allow delegates to set their own target dates for completing each part of the course.

  • It is increasingly difficult for delegates to take time out from work to attend face-to-face courses over a number of days. Though online learning provides a solution to this, it also risks losing the group interaction which can really bring courses alive and the learning and support that comes from interaction with fellow delegates. Good online technology replicates key aspects of group training, using features such as instant messaging, email and forum discussions to provide a virtual network of delegates.

  • Courses such as Level A include a lot of written content. Most people still prefer reading from the printed page, especially when content is detailed and extensive, so the majority of the course is contained in a printed course manual not in electronic form.

  • Rich content such as animations, videos and presentations are well-suited to a web environment and can supplement or provide an alternative to written material.

  • Online technology can be very useful in conducting assessment on demand and providing feedback, though it is important that automated feedback is balanced with personal, in-depth feedback that can only be provided by a tutor.
