Interviews

It would be hard to imagine a recruitment process that failed to include some form of interview. There are good reasons for this interviews often provide the mechanism by which the organisation and candidate meet, and gain some understanding of each other in a mutually beneficial way. Interviews also recognise the fact that past performance can be a good predictor of future performance.

By their nature, interviews are designed as bespoke rather than bought off-the-shelf. As experts in the field, we have been involved in the designing and delivery of a vast array of different types of interview.

These include standard competency-based interviews which are aligned with an organisation's competency framework, as well as functional or technical interviews which focus much more on an individual's technical knowledge, skills and experience for the particular role in question.

Often there is a need to integrate both types of information in arriving at a selection decision as an increasing number of organisations are recognising the limitations of competency-based interviews alone, providing as they do insufficient evidence that an individual can carry out the actual job from a technical perspective.

Interviews may be either conducted face-to-face or over the telephone. The latter are more typically used as a screening device in graduate recruitment, for example.

All interview design work we undertake is done in close collaboration with the client organisation so that the questions reflect both the role in question and the organisation's value system. This collaboration also extends to the interview scoring system to ensure that this is both comprehensive yet easily picked up and utilised by the business who may be heavily involved in the delivery of interviews.

Mendas also provides intervewer skills training which can be positioned as either a refresher briefing for those that have not interviewed for some time or full-blown skills training for those less experienced in interviewing. All courses are built around the organisation's own interview questions/documents to ensure that skills learned can be put to immediate use, and are relevant to the organisation's needs.
