Mendas - Chartered Psychologists

The Mendas Working Situations test is a video-based Situational Judgment Test.

Why should I use this as part of our graduate recruitment process?

Used early in the sifting process it can dramatically reduce the number of candidates progressing to the later, more resource intensive (and expensive) stages, and provides an objective measure to inform the decision-making process.

Careful choice of video can help sell your organisation to potential applicants, giving them firsthand insight into what they may be involved in when in the role, and highlighting the organisation’s diversity and uniqueness.

How does it work?

Candidates watch video clips of realistic situations they are likely to face in the workplace. They are given five predefined options about actions they could take and are asked to prioritize these in terms of effectiveness. There is a ‘right’ answer, as defined by key stakeholders, although this is not obvious to candidates. Setting a priority for each option provides a measure of how candidates deal with and prioritize aspects of a variety of situations.

Can I align the test with our organizational competency framework?

Simply put, yes you can. Although a generic test is available, Mendas Working Situations can be adapted to align with your competencies and core values. You may want to change the situations to more closely reflect your culture, or you may only want to review the responses or scoring criteria. Either way, as the ‘right’ answers can vary from one organisation to another, we will work with you to tailor the test to meet your needs.

Features of the test include:

  • Low adverse impact, especially when compared to other paper-based alternatives
  • Assessment of job related skills which other sifting tools do not measure
  • Interactive test to engage candidates
  • Candidates are asked about real working situations
  • Allows large numbers of candidates to be tested in a short space of time
  • Video format allows candidates to view the situation, reducing the need to read large volumes of text
  • It can be adapted for individuals with special requirements
  • Online administration means scores are quickly accessible
  • Online format reduces administration costs, as there is no need for qualified trained administrators

The Mendas Working Situation test asks applicants to make work-related judgements without needing specific job-knowledge/experience or any previous training, making it perfect as a graduate recruitment tool.
